The Central Military Club is a multifunctional building in the center of Sofia. It is located at the crossroads of two main roads in Sofia - Rakovski Street and Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.
Czech architect Adolf Vaclav Kolar is designing the building. Kolar took on this difficult task in his role of chief architect of Sofia at the time. The construction of the club began in 1895 on land purchased for 180,000 gold levs. The foundation of the construction is a stone from the battle of Slivnitsa from the Bulgarian-Serbian war (1885-1886). The project was perfected by architect Nikola Lazarov. In 1907 the club was completely ready. Andreas Grice from Vienna oversees decorating the facades and halls.
The building of the Military Club is made entirely in Neo-Renaissance style. The salons are very stylish, elegant, and decorated with ornaments on the ceilings, marble, plaster casts, expensive silk. The concert hall is in the Baroque style. The acoustics in it are achieved in a unique way - acoustic pots are built into the walls.
There are three floors, which have a distribution typical of club buildings from the late 19th century. On the first floor there are various luxuriously decorated lounges, suitable for cocktails, conferences, literary readings, chamber concerts, business meetings. On the second floor is the Concert Hall of the Central Military Club with over 400 seats. Its dignified interior impresses with beautiful plaster ornaments and original Viennese chandeliers.
The club building has been declared a cultural monument of national importance.
